Business Memos Purpose The purpose of a good memo is to inform employees of an event or a change of some kind. The memo is a brief message that is usually two to five paragraphs in length.
Components of A Good Memo Memos should be single-spaced between lines and double-spaced between each paragraph. Longer memos may need subheadings in the memo. Also, the author should initial next to the "from" line in the top portion of the memo. The first paragraph should describe the most important accomplishment or concerns, and this should be summarized in one or two sentences. Other paragraphs should give background to your readers so they can better understand your statements. You may also need to describe your experiments, calculations, assumptions, or remaining tasks. You may also want to have a paragraph where possible actions that need to be taken are presented and a summary of the topics is reviewed.
